However, that intelligence didn’t just live in your mind—it settled into your body.
Your jaw learned to stay tight so you wouldn’t upset anyone.
Your shoulders hardened under weight that wasn’t yours.
Your body learned how to stay useful—and that meant staying small.
You’ve been quiet. Obedient. And your self-esteem, confidence, and body have paid the price.
Your nervous system learned how to hold everything together. Not just for you, but for everyone around you.
So no, the problem isn’t that you shut down. You did that for a reason.
The problem is that no one ever showed your body how to come back, how to feel safely, and how to express without losing connection.
That’s what somatic healing is.
Not fixing you. Not pushing you to “open up.”
But teaching your body that expression doesn’t equal danger and being fully yourself doesn’t cost you belonging.
